Pride of Essex Race Report
6 Jan 08 – Braintree
Braintree BMX Club played host on Sunday to the first race meeting of its kind – The Pride of Essex Challenge – between Braintree and Dagenham, the only two current racing clubs in Essex. So with a large trophy and a lot more at stake fifty riders from Braintree fought through to take the first round from Dagenham by 9.5 points.
The youngest age group – formula 5 (7 and under), saw Charlie O’Grady remain unbeaten all day and gaining maximum points for himself and the club. Hot on his heels in second was Ted Dalleywater closely followed by Tom Stokes in fourth, Jake Horlock in fifth and Evan Hayward in sixth.
Formula 4 (age 8 – 10) was dominated by Braintree riders and saw a very close finish with Aaron Dalleywater taking the win, George Schwedt-Moret on his tail along with Shane Pavitt and Shane Redgewell in third and fourth. Carrying on the domination were Joshua LeGrove in fifth and Daniel Blanche in sixth and Johnathan Boreham in eighth. In the B final were Charlie Reeve who finished second, Mason Codling in third, Ellis Horlock in fifth and Jay Vora in sixth.
Formula 3 (age 11 – 13) saw an excellent win for Connah Wilson, who was almost unbeaten all day but Jake Britton was hot on his heels in second. Lee Golder finished fifth after an earlier crash in the first berm saw him make up a number of places. Natalie Miller finished sixth, with Max Waghorn in seventh. Sam Britton went through to win the B final with Paige Elvin in second.
Formula 2 (age 14 – 16) was dominated by Dagenham riders but Braintree riders were unperturbed and Christopher Potter came in fourth close behind the Dagenham riders. He was followed across the line by Oliver Cutmore in fifth, Tony Bearne in seventh and Nicola Reed in eighth. The B final saw an excellent win for Ryan East following a very close run-off for a place in the A which he lost by inches.
Formula 1 (17+) saw Braintree take the first four places with Zoltain Buday and Gabor Deli coming in first and second with Tom Elvin, ‘the moose’ coming in third with James Goodwin in fourth. Not far behind were Will Elsey in sixth and Riess Harper in seventh and Richard Whiting in eighth. In the B final were Stu Dixon, who took the win, with Lee East on his tail in second and Gabor Winkler in third.
The seniors were as competitive as their younger counterparts and although the top two places went to Dagenham Gavin Stokes came in third for Braintree. Finishing sixth was Spencer Moret with Nik Pullen in seventh and Dennis Golder in eighth. In the B final were Alan Elvin who finished second, Steve Hurst in fourth, Dominic Burnet in fifth and James O’Grady in sixth.
Dagenham BMX Club are well-known for their Old Skool riders and this class was very much dominated by their riders however, the win was taken by a Braintree rider in the shape of Stu Dixon who managed this despite riding two classes. The other two Braintree riders were Jim Wiseman and Lee Saunders who finished sixth and seventh.
Braintree riders now look forward to the return leg which is on 10th February at Dagenham BMX Club where the fight to take the ‘Pride of Essex’ will be decided.

Autumn National Race Report
21 October 2007
The third and final round of the autumn national BMX Series
took place at Peterborough on Sunday and Braintree was well
represented by twenty one hardy and dedicated riders.
In the youngest age group, six and under, were two Braintree
riders, Charlie O Grady and Sydney Allen. Charlie went into
the semi-finals, finishing eighth and missing out on the
main final.
The male eights saw Shane Redgewell gaining excellent moto
results and going into the A final easily where he finished
seventh. The male nines saw Lee Golder achieving persistent
seconds throughout the day and taking home his third trophy
of this series, making it three out of three. His consistently
high standard of racing saw him win the series and taking
home the biggest trophy of the series.
Taylor Andrews had a brilliant day winning one of his motos
and finishing second overall in the main final. The male
thirteen’s saw Ryan East gaining consistent moto results
but missing out on the main final. The fourteen’s were a
grand prix group and Leon Dixon rode well in all four races,
finishing fifth overall.
The male fifteen’s were dominated, as usual, by Braintree
riders and Matt Kirk showed his winning ways remaining unbeaten
all day and taking home the first place trophy. Not far behind
him was Tom Elvin who had excellent moto results going into
the A final with ease, where he finished third. Also making
the final was Sam Aves who finished eighth and also riding
in this group were Will Elsey and Riess Harper.
The male 18/19 class saw Bradley Watts and Steven Sewell
both gaining excellent moto results going into the main final
with ease, where they battled it out with Bradley finishing
third with Steven close behind in fourth. Further down the
pack was James Goodwin who finished eighth.
The older class of 26 – 32 year olds saw Jools Allen making
a return to national racing achieving good moto results but
just missing out on the A final. In the grand prix class
of 42+ riders, Dominic Burnett rode with good results finishing
third overall.
Doing it for the girls were Paige Elvin and Kelsey Dixon
competing in the 9 – 10 class and both having mixed moto
results with final positions of fourth for Paige and fifth
for Kelsey. The 16 – 25 class saw Nicola Reed having a stunning
day, almost completely unbeaten and winning her class easily.
Bradley Watts and Steven Sewell doubled up their classes
and entered the 16+ payback race which Bradley finished in
second with Steven in seventh.

Report from the British Championships 2007
The grand finale of the regional BMX racing series culminated
in the British Championships this weekend at the beautiful
and sunny Burnham on Sea in Somerset. Thirty three riders
from Braintree travelled down the country to take part in
this prestigious event, which was filmed by Sky TV to be
televised on 6th/7th September
The day kicked off with cruiser racing and Tom Elvin rode
fantastically well in his 13 – 15 cruiser class, finishing
second overall at the end of the day and winning a trophy
he could hardly hold up it was so big. The cruiser 16 - 29
saw Lee East and Jamie Clarke fighting for a place in the
semi final but both just missing out.
The six and under class saw Braintree’s only BRITISH CHAMPION
in the shape of Josh Peters who was completely unbeaten in
every single race and went on to win his final easily. His
trophy appeared larger than he was and he certainly had trouble
keeping it up in the air. Tom Stokes rode in the same race
but went into a run-off to secure a place in final and just
missed out.
The female 7 – 9 class saw Kelsey Dixon riding her first
ever Brits and going through to the semi-final easily where
she finished in a frustrating fifth and lost out on a final.
The expert 8 class saw Shane Redgewell and George Schwedt-Moret
riding good motos, going easily into the semi-final and then
finishing fourth and gaining their places in the A final..
An unfortunate fall in the final mean’t that George finished
eighth and Shane seventh. Further down the pack was Joshua
Legrove who missed out on the semi-final despite good racing
in the motos.
The expert 9 class saw Lee Golder, Shane Pavitt and Jonathan
Boreham all riding at this level for the first time. Lee
went through to the semi-final easily but Shane ended up
in a run-off for a place in the semi. This he won with ease
and so they both went in to their semi but unfortunately
finished sixth missing out on the final. In the next group
up Max Waghorn rode his motos well but missed out on the
semi-final.
The expert 11 class saw Tom Hall riding well in his motos
ending in a run off for a place in the semi-final however
he just missed out by a very close finish.
The female 10 – 12 group saw Paige Elvin riding at this
level for the first time and doing well but missing out on
a final. The male 12 saw Connah Wilson racing well and gaining
a place in the semi-final where he finished seventh and missed
out on the final.
The expert 13 class saw stunning racing from Riess Harper
who sailed through his motos and won his semi-final, following
a tense and close final finished in third. Ryan East also
rode with this class but unfortunately missed out on a semi
final.
The ever-popular expert 14 class saw Matt Kirk with almost
perfect results go into the final easily and finish on the
podium in second place. Will Elsey and Sam Aves both rode
into the semi-final easily but both finished fifth so missing
out on the final. Leon Dixon and Oliver Cutmore also rode
this group but missed out on a semi-final.
The expert 15 class had Tom Elvin going through to the second
final of his day and finishing eighth. Natalie Miller rode
in the Female 13 – 15 final where she found herself in a
dreaded run-off but made it work and went through to the
final where she finished seventh.
The extremely competitive expert 16 class saw Steven Sewell
racing fantastically well and going easily into the final
where he finished a close second. Bradley Watts, also in
this group went easily into the semi and final and was lying
third when he slipped up in his final and finished fifth.
Ashley Hall also rode in this class but unfortunately missed
out on the final.
The junior men had Jason Clarke riding well but unfortunately
he missed out on the semi final, In the older group of masters
Stu Dixon went through to the quarter-finals easily but following
a fall missed out on the A final.
The junior female class saw last years British Champion
Nicola Reed gaining excellent moto results going easily into
the final where she crossed the line in fifth.
There was a special Old Skool race at this year’s championship
in aid of Stephen Murray, a professional British BMXer now
from the USA, who was recently seriously injured. The money
raised will go to support him in his recovery. There were
three Braintree riders who took part in this charity race,
Jools Allen, John Stockwell and Craig Schofield and rode
excellent motos with all three going into the semi-finals
but missing out on the final.
National Race Coppull
The penultimate round of the National BMX race
series took place in a very wet and muddy Coppull in Lancashire
on Sunday. Fifteen hardy riders from Braintree BMX Club made
the journey northwards to take part in the racing and add
points to their current rankings.
The youngest of those was Josh Peters who had a slow start
with a fall in his first moto but made a swift recovery and
went on to win his next moto. He went easily into the A final
where he finished second.
The very large and competitive 13/14 class saw six Braintree
riders take part, with Matthew Kirk leading the pack and
remaining completely unbeaten all day and taking his second
National win this year. Going through to the A final for
the first time at national level was Will Elsey who had good
moto results taking him into the semi-final where he finished
fourth, therefore going into the A final where he crossed
the line in seventh. Richard Whiting and Riess Harper found
themselves in a run-off after finishing their motos in equal
points and it was Richard who took a well-earned place in
the B final with Riess missing out. Further down the pack
and also missing out on the semi-finals were Oliver Cutmore
and Leon Dixon.
The extremely competitive 15/16 class saw Bradley Watts
take his first ever national win despite a slow start in
his motos. He won his semi-final with ease and went into
the A final to gain his well-deserved win. Tom Elvin also
rode this class and good moto results took him into the semi-final
where he finished a close and frustrating fifth. So he went
into the B final where he finished fourth.
The junior men saw Steven Sewell riding up a class and absolutely
flying in his motos, going into the semi-final with ease.
However, a crash in his semi had him missing out of A final
but winning the B final with ease. Jason Clarke also rode
this group and had good moto results gaining a place in the
semi-final where he finished fourth going into the A final
for the first time at national level, where he finished eighth.
The older group of masters saw Braintree’s Stu Dixon go
into the B final after missing one of his moto’s, however,
unperturbed went on to win the B final.
The only female representation from Braintree came from
2006 champ Nicola Reed who had a slow start with a fall in
her first moto but followed this up with consecutive fourths
to finish fourth overall in this Grand Prix group.
The cruiser classes saw a second entry from Tom Elvin in
the 13 – 15 class and racing well he finished second overall.
The older 16 – 29 class saw Braintree’s Lee East and Jamie
Clarke competing together and following good moto’s they
both went into the B final which Lee went on to win and Jamie
crossed the line in third.
The final round of this series is in Tredegar, Wales on
the weekend of 11/12 August.

Regional Race report – round 6
Braintree BMX Club played host to round 6 of the East Anglian
BMX summer series on Sunday with almost 100 riders taking
part. Despite the rain and mud which made the conditions
particularly hard going all the riders managed to complete
their racing with the large Old Skool class going to semi
finals as well.
The younger end of the expert classes saw Josh Peters and
Tom Stokes competing in the 6 and under class, with Josh
riding exceptionally well and remaining unbeaten all day
boosting his points in the series. Not far behind was Tom
who came back from a fall in his first moto to finish fourth.
The combined 7 + 8 class saw George Schwedt-Moret, Shane
Redgewell and Joshua Legrove fighting for a place in the
A final and all achieving this easily. George finished third
overall, with Shane in fifth and Joshua eighth following
a fall in the final.
The combined 9 + 10 group had 9 riders meaning 1 would miss
out on a final, however the 4 riders from Braintree were
all safe and Max Waghorn finished in first place with Lee
Golder in second, Matthew Prior in fourth and Shane Pavitt
in eighth.
Connah Wilson and Taylor Andrews fought their way through
the 11/12 class with Connah finishing second and Taylor on
his tail third. Further down the pack was Thomas Hall who
also made the main final finishing sixth.
The large group of 13/14 year old riders was dominated by
riders from Braintree with Sam Aves finishing a brilliant
second and Riess Harper on his tail in third and Will Elsey
in fourth. Oliver Cutmore, Chris Potter. Richard Whiting
and Leon Dixon also took part in this group with Oliver finishing
in sixth, Chris Potter in seventh, and Richard Whiting in
eighth. Leon did not make the A final however, unperturbed
went on to win the B with Ryan East joining him and finishing
fifth.
The 15/16 riders were mixed with the 30+, 17+ and Masterclass
to make for an exciting race group. Bradley Watts was slow
to start but made the A final where he finished second with
30+ rider Stu Dixon on his tail in third. Matt Kirk finished
fourth ahead of Ashley Hall in fifth, Charles Moret in sixth
and Thomas Elvin in seventh following a fall.
The cruiser riders were all together in one big group and
leading the way all day was James Goodwin who was followed
by Lee East in second, Thomas Elvin in third and Matthew
Sewell, returning to racing after a break, finishing fourth.
Jamie Clarke was also in this group and finished eighth.
The girls were also together and were led all day by Nicola
Reed who was completely unbeaten. Natalie Miller followed
her across the line in third with Paige Elvin in fifth and
Kelsy Dixon in sixth.
The Old Skool riders all rode well, even if it was with
much huffing and puffing. Out of the 19 riders the two Braintree
riders found themselves in the middle of the pack and Tony
Waye finished third and Lee Allen fourth.
The next round of this series is in 2 weeks time at Norwich.

National race report Round 1 and 2 May 2007 Cheddar
The first two rounds of the National BMX race series took
place in Cheddar at the weekend and Braintree BMX Club was
represented by twenty of its top riders. Round 1 on Sunday
started well and the riders looked really good following
their training and practice from the day before.
The youngest rider from Braintree was Josh Peters who rode
in the 6 and under class at his first ever National meeting
and achieved fantastic results in his motos with two wins
out of three, so going into the A final with ease however
a nasty crash saw him finish eighth.
The expert eight group saw George Scwedt-Moret win his first
moto and sail through his semi-final easily. He also went
into the A final where he finished seventh. Also, new to
National racing was Lee Golder who rode in the expert nine
group and with good moto results went into the B final where
he finished second.
The large combined 11/12 age group saw Taylor Andrews have
his work cut out and despite good moto results missed out
on a semi-final. The even larger combined 13/14 group saw
a first National win for Matthew Kirk who was almost unbeaten
all day after sailing through his quarter and semi-finals.
Further down the pack in the same group was Riess Harper
who had excellent moto results and also sailed through his
quarter final, however he just missed out on the A final
with a fifth in his semi, so he went into the B final where
he finished sixth.
Leon Dixon and Will Elsey, also took part in this group but
went out in the quarter-finals and Ryan East and Oliver Cutmore
both missed out on the quarters.
The even larger 15/16 group saw Bradley Watts riding fantastically
well in his motos and winning his quarter-final going into
the semi-final easily where he finished a comfortable second,
so into the A final where a very close finish left him in
fourth place. Further down the pack was Tom Elvin, riding
his first National, had good moto results and went into the
quarter final where he missed out on a place in the finals
by a close fifth.
Riding up a class in the Junior Men was Talent Team member
Steven Sewell who really had to work hard to get to the semi-finals
following a fall in one of his motos. However, a second in
his semi-final saw him into the A final where he finished
a close and excellent third. Also competing in this group
was Jason Clarke who rode well in his motos but missed out
on a semi-final.
The nineteen and over class saw Shaun Doherty taking part
and finding himself in a dreaded runoff for the quarterfinals
where he just missed out.
The only female rider from Braintree was Nicola Reed whose
day started badly with a crash in her first moto, however
unperturbed she returned to complete and finished sixth in
the A final of the Junior Women.
The cruiser classes saw Tom Elvin doubling up and riding
the 13 – 15 cruiser class which was a grand prix class and
excellent results saw him finish second. The cruiser 16 –
29 class saw Lee East riding really well despite a fall in
his first moto, and went into the semi-finals easily but
just missed out on the A final. An unfortunate crash in the
B final saw him finish seventh. Jamie Clarke also took part
in this class but missed out on the semi-finals. The 40+
cruiser class saw Dominic Burnet getting good moto results
but missing out on the A final and finishing sixth in the
B.
So with nearly all the riders competing on both days it
was dinner and an early night in preparation for day two
on Monday and round 2 started well for young Josh Peters
in the 6 and under class who had 2 wins in his motos and
wen ton to finish third in the A final. George Scwedt-Moret
in the 8’s worked really hard in his motos to take his place
in the semi-final where he finished fourth and so went into
the A final where he crossed the line in sixth.
In the 9;s Lee Golder also appeared to have the track sorted
and got himself into the A final easily where he where he
finished sixth. The male 11/12 group saw Taylor Andrews having
to work extra hard after missing his first moto because of
a puncture, but it wasn’t quite enough and he missed out
on a semi-final.
The male 13/14 class saw the same six riders competing and
Matt Kirk had yet another good day sailing through his motos,
quarters and semi to finish third in the A final. Not far
behind hime was Riess Harper who just made the semi’s and
fnished seventh in the A. Oliver Cutmore, Leon Dixon and
Ryan East all went through to the quarter-finals but just
missed out on the semi’s. Will Elsey also took part in this
group but missed out on the quarter’s.
The large 15/16 group saw stunning results from Bradley
Watts who was unbeaten through his motos, quarters and semi
and crossed the line in second in the A final. Further down
the pack was Tom Elvin who went through to the quarter’s
but missed out on a semi-final. The 19+ class saw Shaun Doherty
getting good moto results and going through to the quarter-finals
where he finished seventh missing out on the semi-final.
Nicola Reed again took part in the Junior Women and was
looking good for a top place in the main final when she crashed
on the first straight and did not finish.
The cruiser classes saw Tom Elvin take second place consistently
through the day in the 13-15 grand prix class but finished
first overall with the most points. In the 16 – 29 class
Lee East and Jamie Clarke found themselves in the B final
where they finished third and fourth consecutively.
The next two rounds of the National BMX series take place
in Bournemouth in four weeks. Meanwhile, Braintree BMX Club
Summer Series is currently running every Wednesday at 7pm.
East
Anglian 2007 Summer Series Round
1 at Hayes.
A
large number of riders from Braintree BMX Club took
part in round 1 of the East Anglian 2007 Summer Series.
This
meeting was hosted by Hayes Hawks in Middlesex and
was a combined regional with the South region with the
riders
amounting to a huge 250 and the competition increasing
ten fold, all adding to the enjoyment for riders and
spectators.
Two fairly new regional
riders from Braintree decided to try their hand
at novice racing and Oliver Cutmore rode in the novice
11 – 14 group finishing third. Daniel Neilsen rode
in the 15+ novice group and maintained a second throughout
the
day – both riders earned themselves a newcomer’s
medal.
The contingent of Old
Skool riders who are running their
own
series on
original eighties bikes also took part in the racing
and Lee Saunders started the day well with a second
in his
first moto, he went through to the A final where
he finished sixth. Not far behind was Jim Wiseman who
just
missed
out on the A final but went on to win the B with
style.
Josh Peters riding
in the 6 and under class gave a repeat performance
of last weeks race meet with an unbeaten record
all day, he
brought
home a well-deserved rider of the day trophy
and will be making his debut at National level in the
next
few
weeks.
Further down the pack
in this class was Tom Stokes who
finished fifth.The expert eight
class was a large group and saw George Schwedt-Moret
getting
mixed moto results, one a first. He went
through to the A final where he finished eighth. Not
far
behind was
Shane Redgewell who didn’t quite make it into
the A final
but
finished second in the B.
The expert eights
saw three Braintree riders competing and
Lee Golder rode very well in his motos getting
consistent thirds,
so
into the A final where he came across the
line in fourth. On
his tail were Matthew Prior who finished
sixth and Shane Pavitt who finished eighth.
The female
7
– 9 class saw Paige Elvin, the only female
competitor from Braintree, riding extremely
well, getting consistent
fourths
all day. The expert 10’s
saw Max Waghorn start the day with style
by
winning his first moto, he went into
the A final easily where
he
finished fifth.
The male 11 and 12’s
were a combined class leading
to semi-finals which Connah Wilson
and Tom Hall went into easily, however they both
missed out on the A
final going
into the B where Connah finished a
very close second followed by Tom in seventh.
The 13
and 14’s
were also combined and Sam Aves showed
the way winning two out of his three motos going
into the A final with
ease where he finished third. Also,
in this group were Leon Dixon and Ryan East, both
in the B final with
Leon finishing in sixth and Ryan
in eighth. The 15/16 class
was large and competitive and Ashley
Hall showed the way with good moto results taking
him into
the semi-final
with
ease, with a second in his semi he
went into the A final with ease and finished third.
Tom
Elvin also
had good
moto results but crashed out in the
semi-final going into the
B final which he won with ease. This
being the group for crashing, apparently, Matt
Kirk was not left out
and after
losing his momentum in the semi-final
he went through to the B final where a nasty crash
saw him finish in
eighth.
The expert 30+
class was one of the biggest of
the day with 21 riders and semi-finals. Stu Dixon had
his
work cut out getting
into the semi-finals where he lost
out with a seventh – so into the B final where he came
across the line
in fifth.
Further down the pack was Gavin
Stokes who
finished second in the C final.
The junior men
found themselves combined into
the elite class and so had their work cut out to get
into the
semi-finals.
Two
riders
from Braintree, Jason Clarke
and Charles Moret both missed out on the semi’s and Jason
finished
sixth in
the C final
with Charles fourth in the D
final.
There were three entries
in the cruiser classes and James Goodwin and
Jamie Clarke both took part
in the 17 – 29
class. James had an
excellent day with four seconds
and Jamie was on his tail finishing sixth.
The 40+
cruiser class had Dominic
Burnet
riding well and finishing
sixth overall.
The
next regional round is
the second Inter-regional which will be held
at Milton Keynes on 22nd
April. Braintree BMX Club will commence
summer race meetings on
Wednesday 2nd May at 7pm with two practice nights before
